Background
A family of three wanted an open, sociable public area, but the original layout had a cramped kitchen-dining zone and wasted corridor space.
Strategy
- Unified kitchen-dining: remove walls; an open kitchen + island becomes the home’s core
- Loop circulation: island and living room form a ring, cutting dead ends and boosting flow
- Hidden storage: full-height cabinets along walls tuck clutter “into the wall”
Result
When flow is right, space naturally feels bigger.
The public area reads nearly twice as large, and family interaction increased markedly — a textbook case of trading circulation for space in a compact flat.
